Teaching & Editing
Since 2008, I’ve led workshops and fellowships for The OpEd Project, an organization that is expanding the range and diversity of voices in the public conversation.
I facilitate daylong public workshops on how to think of oneself as an expert. I also lead three- or nine-month fellowships for university faculty and administrators on crafting persuasive arguments. Participants in the program have gone on to publish dozens of commentaries in The Washington Post, USA Today, The Hill, Ms. Magazine, and other outlets.
I also taught Logic and Rhetoric seminars to undergraduates at Columbia University, and I frequently edit colleagues’ journalism and creative writing.
Some pieces I’ve edited include:
I love Lizzo – but body positivity isn’t enough to fight racialized misogyny
Why are Americans remaining childless? Surprisingly, it’s not just time and money
To help address the climate problem, universities must rethink the tenure and promotion system
Queer, Latinx youth amplify their voices using telenovas
Public health nurses can help Chicago contain the coronavirus
The guilt does not go away: a physician’s tribute to elephant mothers
Call the midwife – if you can
A disturbing truth about medical school – and America’s future doctors
Stop telling people they’re fighters who will ‘beat’ their incurable disease
When the patient is a racist
